Dan’s Parkrun Charity Challenge

Daniel Watts here at Watson Moore has taken on a challenge to run 5k at a Parkrun event every Saturday in the month of June. Parkrun is a volunteer-led organisation, holding events every Saturday at various locations across the country, encouraging people to walk, jog or run 5km. He is doing this to raise money for ‘Saint Francis Hospice’, a local hospice to our office, covering the Havering, Dagenham and Brentwood areas. They provide care for people either seriously or terminally ill.

“I know how vital this care is. Members of my own family have received hospice care towards the end of their lives and many of our clients have had family members stay at a Saint Francis Hospice, so it was a no brainer to raise money for them” says Dan. Dan has also opened up the challenge to his colleagues, challenging them to walk, jog or run 5k at one or more Parkrun events in the month of June too.

  • Saturday 1st June 2024 – Dan ran 5k at his local Parkrun in Horsham in 28m01secs.
  • Saturday 8th June 2024 – Dan ran 5k in Horsham again, in 27m13secs.
  • Saturday 15th June 2024 – Dan ran 5k in Horsham (in the rain!) in 29m38secs
  • Saturday 15th June 2024 – Josef took part in the Parkrun in Chelmsford, Essex
  • Sunday 16th June 2024 – Chris and his son George ran 2km in Junior Parkrun

“I’m really enjoying it!” explains Dan, “I’ve gotten chatting to lots of positive people first thing on a Saturday morning, which is great. On my first Parkrun there was a groom and his best man running before his wedding…later that day! Saturday 15th June was tough though, as the rain had made the ground very slippery, and I saw two people fall over! I stopped to help one runner of course and I knew that day wasn’t going to be my best time. I have two more weeks left and am determined to get a new Personal Best!”

Chris and his son George attended Junior Parkrun at Maldon in Essex. “George was so much faster than me. At parts it was a challenge for me to try and keep up with him!” jokes Chris.
